Our Story
Where it all began
It all began in 2015 with the purchase of our first truck, a 2014 Toyota Tacoma TRD Sport. The desire for adventure followed shortly after. We began modifying the truck to make it more capable of reaching beautiful backcountry camping locations.
Much of that inspiration came from 14,000 kilometres away. Australians have been exploring their country by truck for decades, and we wanted to bring that same approach to our own adventures here in Canada.
Fast-forward to 2017 and the arrival of a new platform, a 2017 Toyota Tacoma TRD Off-Road. After learning what worked and what did not, we took a more purposeful approach to the build. Once again inspired by Australian truck setups, it was time to use the Tacoma’s full potential and build it properly.
The search began for a flat deck or tray system that would complement the midsize platform while providing greater utility. A few options were available, but they all came from outside North America.

This is where Summit Expedition Trucks Ltd. began. Provide the same quality and performance from these systems, with the advantages of being designed and manufactured, right here in North America! We take the guess work out of many elements. We incorporate some of the best features on the market, into one stylish unit. Seeing the growing popularity in mid size trucks, and the tasks they are given, we designed our products to both compliment the look and function!
We don’t just focus on any single market. Our platforms are designed with multiple tasks and industries in mind. Our decks utilize an extruded floor, which will stay straight and true for the life of the vehicle. Whether you’re an avid adventurer, home builder, landscaper, contractor or in the oilfield and mining industry. Our products are designed to handle the abuse in any of these industries and the harsh climates that can come with them! Using aluminum, we can ensure a rigid and light weight design; not taking away from a vehicles payload. No need to worry about rust either.
Our products are designed to suit a wide range of North American platforms. From Toyota Tacoma’s, to RAM 3500 series trucks. We take the headaches out of installation, electrical, and lead times. We currently offer build to suit options, with a high level of quality control, and end user friendliness. We designed our systems to meet all DOT requirements; including lighting and reflectors.
The flat pack design allows for reasonable shipping costs, and at home installation. Our lightweight construction makes it easy, with the help of a friend, to install this at home. The most you’ll require are some basic hand tools, and thorough instructions are included!
